Running good (poker)
I went to Tulalip yesterday for the championship. I had qualified in 3 divisions for an extra 2000 starting chips, for a total of 5k. I donked it away. I was not able to sufficiently modify my style for the table. The seating order at my table was Tyler, Drew, me, an average player whoose name I don't remember, DanG, DanE, and JohnS. Cards weren't coming for me, I was unable to steal blinds or make any bluffs, and surrounded by aggresion. This was doubleplus ungood for me, and I was out by the end of the third blind round.
So, that wasn't running good, but the cash game... I managed to crush that. It was $50/$100 NLHE with 1-2 blinds. I was a donkfish for a couple of hours there, getting a feel for my game again. I bought in for the max, $100, and was very swingy, at one point dwindling down to $18. Then the comeback began, and what a comeback it was. I doubled up a few times through a combination of smart play and sucking out, then was swinging between $100 and $200 for a while. I got to a more steady point where I was hovering around $200, and really started crushing the table when Dan and I were the only SPO players left at it. I busted this loud drunk a couple of times, sunglasses dude a couple spots to my left donated some huge pots, and Indian dude across the table got destacked a couple times as well. They were all pretty aggressive, and I found my Pooh-like "thinking spot" where I was patient and contemplative. It helped that the dealers were card racks. I got AA in the hole 3 times in 15 minutes, back to back one of those times, and the thinking helped when I let go of QQ when facing a standard-ish bet after an A hit the flop. I had ID all tilty when I teased him about touching his cards and greasing them up when he was eating Nachos, and he was all pissed about it. I was just teasing and explained as much, but he wanted to bust my ass. I used it to my advantage and let him donk a bunch of chips my way. Anyhow, that's the story of how I turned $100 into over $800. It was a good night for poker.
