Testing of game theory

I got taken down last night when I let my cards make my decisions for me. I was getting short and was almost under the gun (full table), so before the hand was dealt I decided that if I had 4-8c (or a decent hand, of course), I was going to go all-in. I got dealt 46c, so going with my plan, I made my move. 2 callers. Fuck. Both hands were marginal, ATo and something like K9o. Josh was holding the A, and I know he wouldn't have called if he didn't have an A or a painted PP. Justin called with the K9. Anyhow, Josh caught a T on the flop, they checked it down, I didn't improve, and bu-bye.

I still think it was an okay move. If Josh didn't call, I don't think Justin would have. I think Josh's call (giving him 2-1) tipped him towards the call with his mediocre hand. I know that both of them are of the school that thinks any A is good enough for a call against a desperation move by a stack that is less than 50% of theirs, but I don't think they call with anything less than that. I'll have to figure the odds, there - full table where anyone calls w/ pairs 9+ or AQ+, and 2 players that call with Ax. How many times do I get called before the flop?

I'm gonna go to my thinking spot now...

More freeroll silliness, bar poker special event

I played in a million $ freeroll qualifier yesterday at Paradise, and won a seat. I only had to knock out 1200 of my closest friends to do it. It was a bit of a rush, better than winning that celeb poker qualifier. For the next round, all I have to do is beat 4,490 of my best friends to get to the final table at some undisclosed tropical location. It's not for another 40 days or so, so there wont be any updates about that for a while.

Jenny and I played in the bar league's "Tag Team Tournament". It was a bit odd, but pretty fun. I was playing when we busted, our JJ vs. AK and QQ. There were 2 all in moves in front of us (pre-flop) when I pushed, and I don't know if it was the right thing for me to push there. My reasoning was that there were only 3 hands that had me beat at the moment, had put my opps on drawing hands (Ax) rather than made ones, and was seeing a chance to triple up. Now that I think of it, my odds were not right to make the call. I was thinking I was up against AK and AQ, leaving a total of 8 outs. I had 2 outs (discounting the possibility of runner x4 for a flush), but I thought my hand was the best at the time. As it turns out I needed to catch 1 of 2 Js while dodging 3 As, 3 Ks, and 2 Qs. Still 8 outs to improve the opp, but I had to improve to even have a shot at it.

The more I think about it, the worse the call was. Note to self - don't play JJ with your stack covered with 2 others in the pot. Everyone is an underdog here, and even though you may have the best of it, the odds are not good.

INXS at Marymoor park

Jenny and I saw them there this past Saturday. I know my tastes in popular music are stuck in the late '80s, early '90s, but that's the way it is. Ther new lead singer, while no Michael Hutchence, does a very good job. He doesn't have the vocal range, but he's a good entertainer. It appears that he fucked up his leg, and he's wearing a brace/walking cast, but he's still a bit of a wild man on stage.

Anyhow, it was a good show. Rock on, boys.

When I say "boys", I mean middle aged men.
